As one of the biggest comedic voices on the stand-up circuit, former Saturday Night Live cast member Chris Rock has become a household favourite. The Brooklyn-raised comedian made headway with a small cameo in Eddie Murphy’s Beverly Hills Cop II in 1987, before joining NBC’s Saturday Night Live cast in 1990 for three seasons. HBO produced a comedy special Bring the Pain starring Rock in 1996, which was honored with two Emmy Awards for Best Writing and Outstanding Special. His on-screen triumphs didn’t end there; the star went on to host the critically acclaimed Chris Rock Show in 1997--one of his biggest successes to date. Rock also received three Grammy Awards for his spoken comedy albums Roll With the New, Bigger and Blacker, and Never Scared.
Not limited to stand-up comedy and presenting, Rock is the author of Rock This!, and has appeared in multiple films including New Jack City, Lethal Weapon 4, Bad Company, Grown Ups, and narrated the voice of Marty in Dreamworks’ Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa. Serving as both co-creator and narrator, Rock’s television series Everybody Hates Chris--about a black boy in a predominantly white school in 1980’s--was inspired by Rock’s own life. In 2006, the show earned both a Golden Globe nomination for Best Television Series Musical or Comedy and a Writers Guild Awards nomination for Best New Series. Rock’s No Apologies tour in 2008 sold out internationally, and broke the Guinness World Record for the largest audience ever at a comedy show in the UK. 15,900 people descended on The O2 in London each night for two shows. This summer, Rock will be reuniting with Adam Sandler in production of Netflix’s original movie, “The Week Of.” He will also executive produce BET’s newest late-night talk show, The Rundown with Robin Thede. Rock’s Total Blackout world tour in 2018 marks the first in 10 years.
